Weekly Message for the Week of December 12th

Dear Tiffany Families,

I hope this message finds you well and believe it or not, this upcoming week is our final week of the first half of the year!  Friday will be our last day before our 3-week Winter Break.  Our school will be closed from Monday, December 19th through Monday, January 9th.  School will resume for students on Tuesday, January 10th and it will be a minimum day.  Here is the information for the week here at Tiffany:

New Report Cards for 2022/23

For students in First Grade and older, you will see a different report card compared to previous years.  Kindergarten students, since this is your first report card, it might be all new to you!  There are some key changes that I want all of our families to be aware of.  The first is that it has been simplified to overall categories instead of broken down to individual standards as it had been in previous years.  A separate document should accompany the report card to explain the key end of year standards that students will be working on.

The second noticeable change is the scoring rubric.  While the rubric 1-4 numbers are still being used, what they represent is different.  Here is the breakdown:

The biggest difference our families will notice is the “3” and “4.”  The “3” now represents approaching proficiency of meeting the standard and the “4” represents meeting or exceeding the standard.  Remember that all standards reflect what a student needs to master by the end of the school year, so it is expected at this point for students to be making progress, as it is half way through the year.  Report cards will be going home on Friday, December 16th with students.  If you have any questions, please reach out to me (Dr. Sutton) or your child’s teacher.

We need volunteers to make this experience for our students.  If you are able to volunteer, please check out the sign up link:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D44ABA623A6FA7-tiffany1

Lost and Found Cart

Is your child cold in the morning and cannot find their jacket?  It is probably because it is at school in the lost and found cart!  Please be sure to take a peek at our cart to see if any of your child’s items are in there.  We will be packing it up on the last day before break and donating the items to a local shelter.  Thank you!

CVESD is holding five more parent education opportunities for families.  The topics, dates and more information are included in the flyer below:

Student Absences, Tardies and Illness Protocols

Cold and flu season is here and if your child is sick, please keep them home.  Report the absence either by email to deborah.chapman@cvesd.org or by calling our office at 619-421-6300.  This was the case before COVID and continues to be the expectation.

Testing a child after having COVID like symptoms is still required to return, but results do not need to be submitted to the office any longer, unless they are positive.

If your child is exposed at school, please read those notifications carefully, as they contain all of the information that is needed related to the exposure.  Any COVID specific related questions can be asked at covtest4@cvesd.org.

Just a reminder that the late bell rings at 8:45am.  Students are welcome on campus as early at 8:15am to enjoy breakfast, walk laps, etc.  By leaving a little earlier and allowing extra time in the mornings, it helps with the flow of traffic and allows students to get to school on time.  Thank you for your support!

Traffic and Safety

For your review, here are the traffic and parking lot expectations:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”
  • Yellow curbs are for loading and unloading only – cars should not be parked and left unattended.  If you are on a yellow curb, you should be in your vehicle to move as the traffic is moving.
  • The left lane in the parking lot is for traffic to move through.  Parking/stopping in the left lane blocks cars from being able to exit.  Students should not exit or enter vehicles that are in the left lane.
  • Use crosswalks for crossing the street and parking lot.  When dropping students off, please be sure that they exit the vehicle on the right so that they get out directly onto the sidewalk closest to the school building.
  • Follow traffic patterns and do not double park along parking spaces.

Upcoming Dates

December 19th – January 9th – No School for Winter Break

January 10th – Students Return for Quarter 3 – Minimum Day

January 16th – No School – Observance of MLK Day

Winter Workshop Coming Soon

Traffic and Safety

On the Friday before we went out on break, we had another situation at school which required emergency vehicles right at dismissal.  It drives home the point of why we need our red fire lanes cleared and for our loading and unloading zones to have drivers in them so that they can quickly clear out.  Thank you to all who jumped in to help with traffic and were flexible with the traffic pattern that was needed to make sure emergency crews had access.  I know that it seems like it is only a minute or two that cars are left unattended in these areas, but in an emergency situation, one or two minutes are valuable.  Thank you for your continued support.  For your review, here are the traffic and parking lot expectations:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”

Please return all forms to your child’s teacher, signed and dated. If the form is not applicable to you, please mark “Not applicable”, sign, date it and return the form.

Traffic and Safety Reminders

On Tuesday of last week, we had a medical emergency during morning arrival and it reinforced why following our traffic patterns at all times is incredibly important.  Our emergency crews had a bit of a challenge accessing the individual because of the time of day and the heavy traffic.  We made it work, with the help of parents, staff and community members who jumped in, which shows our collective care for each other.  While emergencies thankfully do not happen often, they do happen.  It is important that all of us work together to follow the expectations in the parking lot and keep our community safe.  Thank you for following the expectations below:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”

Weekly Message for the Week of October 31st

Dear Tiffany Families,

What an incredible week of festivities last week!  It was so great to have such amazing activities for our students and families, something that I know we all have been missing these past couple years!  A big thank you to CVPD, CVFD, SD County Sheriff Department and the DEA for giving their time this week to present to our students as part of Red Ribbon Week!  Also, a HUGE thank you and shout out to our PTA Board, PTA Members, Tiffany Families and our local high schools for volunteering their time, donations, planning and organization to make our Fall Festival a success!  We had a full house and families repeated shared with me how grateful they were for their children to have this experience once again!

By submitting these photos, you are giving us permission to display them – both digitally and on campus for school use.  We are excited to celebrate our military families and we thank you for your service!

Military Connected Families Coffee Chat

On Wednesday, November 9th, we will be hosting a Military Coffee Chat from 8:45am – 9:45am here at Tiffany.  Come and meet other military connected families!  Our MFLC, Lucy Jasso, will also be in attendance.  She is on our campus full time and is able to serve our military connected children and their families in a variety of ways.  Her email is lucila.g.jasso@leidos.com if you ever have any questions for her.  She is an incredible addition to our school community.  We hope to see you there on the 9th!

Updated COVID Protocols

Any time a child is sick, they should stay home.  This was the case before COVID and continues to be the expectation.  If your child is sick, please call in their absence to the office so that we are aware.

Weekly Message for the Week of October 24th

Dear Tiffany Families,

I hope this email finds you well on this October weekend.  We have so many exciting events happening here at Tiffany! This week’s message is full of information regarding what to expect in the upcoming weeks.  Before we do that, I would like to give a shoutout to our families and students for being awarded the Most Improved Attendance in CVESD for the month of September!  Four teachers and I accepted this award on behalf of our school last Wednesday at the CVESD Board Meeting – let’s do it again, Tigers!

Red Ribbon Week

On Tuesday, several of our local law enforcement agencies will be on campus in the morning for a special assembly presentation for our students.  When you see them on campus, I wanted our community to be aware of why they are there.

Friday’s Costume Parade will begin at 9am out on our grass field located on the main playground.  Here are the guidelines for our students participating:

  • Students should arrive in costumes
  • Students need to wear regular clothes underneath their costume so that they can change out of their costume after the parade (bathrooms cannot be used for changing).
  • Bring a bag to store your costume after the parade.  If a family member is at the parade, they can take the costume home with them.
  • No costumes that represent horror films, violent or gory.  No weapons.
  • Parents and community are welcome.  Younger siblings, who are not elementary age yet, can join in with school age sibling.
  • Parade will go counterclockwise around track and families can view from the grass area around the perimeter.

We will have an alternate option in the Library if a student is not participating.  Please communicate with your classroom teacher if you would like your child/children to be in the library during the parade.

Thank you to our PTA for making this such an amazing week for our students!

“Effective Discipline: Positive Ways to Change Behaviors” – Presented by Chelsea Gould on October 27th at 5:30pm

I am so excited to have this opportunity for our parents here at Tiffany!  Chelsea Gould is an Educational Psychologist and CVESD is very fortunate that she is a part of our team.  She brings a wealth of knowledge around supporting behavior for our children.  You won’t want to miss this!  Join me on Thursday from 5:30-7pm virtually to learn more about how we can support our children.  The link is below:

Tiffany Tiger Trek – Postponed Until Spring

Our PTA has postponed the Tiger Trek until Quarter 3, so it will no longer be taking place on November 9th.  If you signed up to volunteer, we will still need you!  Once we have finalized the date, we will notify the community.  Thank you for your understanding.

Lost and Found Cart

Is your child missing a jacket, water bottle or sweatshirt, etc., check out our lost and found!  It is overflowing!!  All items not picked up by 10/26 will be donated to a local shelter.  Thank you.

Traffic and Safety

At arrival and dismissal each day we have volunteers, comprised of both staff and parents, that can be identified with the bright neon yellow vests.  Our collective goal is to help keep our parking lot safe.  Friendly paper reminders are also being placed on windshields of cars left unattended on red and yellow curbs.  Thank you for following the expectations below:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”

If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at crystal.sutton@cvesd.org.

Here’s to a great week!

Dr. Sutton
