Weekly Message for the Week of November 28th

Dear Tiffany Families,

I hope this message finds everyone well on this Sunday afternoon and that all of our families were able to spend time together over this past week.  I know I enjoyed the extra time with my family and am recharged to finish the last three weeks of the quarter.  We return to school tomorrow, November 28th and it is a regular dismissal for our students.  There are many events happening over the next three weeks!  Here is the information:

PTA Movie Night – Friday, December 2nd

We will be hosting this event in our MPR and due to the size of the space, we will be holding two showings and tickets will be required.  Please view the flyer for more information!  In addition, we are looking for volunteers to help with this event.  Please check out the link below to sign up!

Winter Workshop Coming Soon

Traffic and Safety

On the Friday before we went out on break, we had another situation at school which required emergency vehicles right at dismissal.  It drives home the point of why we need our red fire lanes cleared and for our loading and unloading zones to have drivers in them so that they can quickly clear out.  Thank you to all who jumped in to help with traffic and were flexible with the traffic pattern that was needed to make sure emergency crews had access.  I know that it seems like it is only a minute or two that cars are left unattended in these areas, but in an emergency situation, one or two minutes are valuable.  Thank you for your continued support.  For your review, here are the traffic and parking lot expectations:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”
  • Yellow curbs are for loading and unloading only – cars should not be parked and left unattended.  If you are on a yellow curb, you should be in your vehicle to move as the traffic is moving.
  • The left lane in the parking lot is for traffic to move through.  Parking/stopping in the left lane blocks cars from being able to exit.  Students should not exit or enter vehicles that are in the left lane.
  • Use crosswalks for crossing the street and parking lot.  When dropping students off, please be sure that they exit the vehicle on the right so that they get out directly onto the sidewalk closest to the school building.
  • Follow traffic patterns and do not double park along parking spaces.

Quarter Two Awards Assembly

Earlier in November, we had our first award assembly since March of 2020.  We will be holding these awards quarterly here on out for the remainder of the year.  Our Quarter Two awards will be as follows:

  • Tuesday, December 6th:
    • 9:00 – 9:30 Grades 1/2
    • 9:45 – 10:15 Grades 5/6
  • Friday, December 9th
    • 9:00 – 9:30 Kinder
    • 9:45 – 10:15 Grades 3/4

If your child is getting an award, you will receive a notification from their teacher.  We look forward to having more of our students recognized here at school.

Yellow Federal Survey / Impact Aid Forms

Federal Survey Forms were sent home with students on Friday, November 4th and should be returned to teachers by Tuesday, November 29th.

The Federal Impact Aid Program provides funds to school districts, who have children who live on military bases or in military housing or other federal properties and for children who have parents in the uniformed services or employed on federal properties.

Federal Survey Forms are not related to personal taxes in any way. Federal property (residential and/or commercial) is not subject to State taxes. State taxes fund our schools. The School District is able to recover lost tax funds through the Federal Impact Aid program. It is very important that we receive a completed Federal Survey form for each child, especially those children whose parents are in the military/federal government, live in military housing, and/or work at a government facility (North Island, Balboa Naval Hospital, etc.).

Please return all forms to your child’s teacher, signed and dated. If the form is not applicable to you, please mark “Not applicable”, sign, date it and return the form.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please reach out to our office and we can assist you.

Student Absences, Tardies and Illness Protocols

Cold and flu season is here and if your child is sick, please keep them home.  Report the absence either by email to deborah.chapman@cvesd.org or by calling our office at 619-421-6300.  This was the case before COVID and continues to be the expectation.

Testing a child after having COVID like symptoms is still required to return, but results do not need to be submitted to the office any longer, unless they are positive.

If your child is exposed at school, please read those notifications carefully, as they contain all of the information that is needed related to the exposure.  Any COVID specific related questions can be asked at covtest4@cvesd.org.

Just a reminder that the late bell rings at 8:45am.  Students are welcome on campus as early at 8:15am to enjoy breakfast, walk laps, etc.  By leaving a little earlier and allowing extra time in the mornings, it helps with the flow of traffic and allows students to get to school on time.  Thank you for your support!
