Dear Tiffany Families,
I hope this email finds you well. Just a reminder that our school will be closed Monday, March 20th through Friday, March 31st. We will resume on Monday, April 3rd and it will be a Minimum Day for all of our TK – 6th Grade students. Preschool will follow their regular schedule. YMCA Spring Camp will be at our campus for the full two weeks, but our office will be closed. When we return on April 3rd, our office team will begin returning messages – please be aware that this will take a little bit of time, so we appreciate your patience.

Internet and Social Media Safety for Students
I already posted this last week, but I would like to share it again, as it is a very important topic of safety for our students:
At the beginning of the school year, we do general lessons for internet and social media safety for our students in a way that is appropriate to the age of the child. Anything where a child can communicate is considered social media, which includes YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, online gaming and more. While students do not have access to these items at school, concerns related to them can spill over into school.
It is important to check in with your child to see what they are doing online. Even if your child is not on all of these platforms, much of the content is cross-posted onto many different outlets, which makes it very difficult to manage. Here are some talking points you can use to help start a conversation with your student around online safety:
- Never give out any personal information on social media. Don’t share your address, what city you live in, or what school you attend – even if it’s your friend.
- Do not share passwords
- Do not add people you don’t know on social media accounts.
- Be nice and always be respectful. Words hurt the same online as they do in person.
- Be careful what you post! Everything shared online is there forever – it does not go away even if the post/photo is deleted.
A few parents have shared an interest in seeing if we can get someone to come out and do a parent education night around this topic. I will see what I can coordinate to support our community and will share the information with our families once it is scheduled. CVPD also does a presentation for upper grade students, so we will be scheduling this in Quarter 4.
Finally, just a reminder that students who have cell phones on campus should have them powered off and in their backpacks during the school day. Once the students exit the campus and need to communicate with families, they can do so.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me at crystal.sutton@cvesd.org.
This will be the last Weekly Message until Sunday, April 2nd. Enjoy this two week break and we will see all of our students and families on Monday, April 3rd.
Take Care,
Dr. Sutton
