Weekly Message for the Week of November 14th

Dear Tiffany Families,

I hope this email finds you well on this November weekend.  I cannot believe that we have one more week before Thanksgiving Break – this time of year flies quickly!  Just a reminder that school will be closed Monday, November 21st through Friday, November 25th.  School will resume on Monday, November 28th.

Here is the information for the upcoming week:

Yellow Federal Survey / Impact Aid Forms

Federal Survey Forms were sent home with students on Friday November 4th and should be returned to teachers by Tuesday, November 29th.

The Federal Impact Aid Program provides funds to school districts, who have children who live on military bases or in military housing or other federal properties and for children who have parents in the uniformed services or employed on federal properties.

Federal Survey Forms are not related to personal taxes in any way. Federal property (residential and/or commercial) is not subject to State taxes. State taxes fund our schools. The School District is able to recover lost tax funds through the Federal Impact Aid program. It is very important that we receive a completed Federal Survey form for each child, especially those children whose parents are in the military/federal government, live in military housing, and/or work at a government facility (North Island, Balboa Naval Hospital, etc.).

Please return all forms to your child’s teacher, signed and dated. If the form is not applicable to you, please mark “Not applicable”, sign & date it and return the form.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please reach out to our office and we can assist you.

Student Absences, Tardies and Illness Protocols

As you are likely aware, we are starting to see a rise in different viruses around campus.  If your child is sick, please keep them home and report the absence either by email to deborah.chapman@cvesd.org or by calling our office at 619-421-6300.  This was the case before COVID and continues to be the expectation.

Testing a child after having COVID like symptoms is still required to return, but results do not need to be submitted to the office any longer, unless they are positive.

If your child is exposed at school, please read those notifications carefully, as they contain all of the information that is needed related to the exposure.  Any COVID specific related questions can be asked at covtest4@cvesd.org.

Just a reminder that the late bell rings at 8:45am.  Students are welcome on campus as early at 8:15am to enjoy breakfast, walk laps, etc.  By leaving a little earlier and allowing extra time in the mornings, it helps with the flow of traffic and allows students to get to school on time.  Thank you for your support!

Chipotle Fundraiser for Sixth Grade Camp on Wednesday, November 16th

Please join us on Wednesday, November 16th from 5-9pm at the Chipotle at 720 Otay Lakes Road in support of our Sixth Graders.  Please present the flyer below if you wish to attend.  Thank you for your support!

Last Call – Free and Reduced Lunch Application Extended until November 18th

The government extended the Free/Reduced Lunch Application for schools.  If you have not completed an application for your child/children yet, please take a moment to do so.  Although breakfast and lunch is free for all this year, the completed form or application determines important funding allocations for our school which we have previously qualified for.

The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) application is available online through November 18, 2022. Click on the link below to apply today or call our office at (619) 421-6300 for a paper application.  Thank you!

Traffic and Safety Reminders

Just a friendly reminder that it is important for all of us work together to follow the expectations in the parking lot and keep our community safe:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”
  • Yellow curbs are for loading and unloading only – cars should not be parked and left unattended.  If you are on a yellow curb, you should be in your vehicle to move as the traffic is moving.
  • The left lane in the parking lot is for traffic to move through.  Parking/stopping in the left lane blocks cars from being able to exit.  Students should not exit or enter vehicles that are in the left lane.
  • Use crosswalks for crossing the street and parking lot.  When dropping students off, please be sure that they exit the vehicle on the right so that they get out directly onto the sidewalk closest to the school building.
  • Follow traffic patterns and do not double park along parking spaces.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at crystal.sutton@cvesd.org.
