Weekly Message for the Week of February 19th

Dear Tiffany Families,

I hope this email finds you well on this President’s Day Weekend.  Just a reminder that our school will be closed on Monday, February 19th in honor of President’s Day.  Students return on Tuesday and it will be a regular day.

Here is the information for the week:

Parking Lot Safety – Teamwork!

This week, I moved the parking lot reminders to the top of the message.  We continue to have concerns with safety in our parking lot and bus area during arrival and dismissal.  We have parents who have stepped up to volunteer, Safety Patrol leaders and many families who are following the expectations.  We are very fortunate that our lot does flow pretty well when we all follow the expectations.

Our CVESD buses and vans park on the Northwest side of our campus at arrival and dismissal to pick up and drop off students.  We understand that the use of transportation vans has caused a little confusion and now some of our families are parking in this area.  The only vehicles that can park on this small section of the street (Northwest curb to the right of our exit) are CVESD buses and vans.  When family vehicles park there, it prevents the buses/vans from being able to park, thus blocking all of the other cars that are trying to get into or out of our lot.  Thank you for keeping this in mind when you are looking for a place to load and unload.

For your review, here are the traffic and parking lot expectations:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”
  • The left lane in the parking lot is for traffic to move through.  Parking/stopping in the left lane blocks cars from being able to exit.  Students should not exit or enter vehicles that are in the left lane.
  • Use crosswalks for crossing the street and parking lot.  When dropping students off, please be sure that they exit the vehicle on the right so that they get out directly onto the sidewalk closest to the school building.
  • Follow traffic patterns and do not double park along parking spaces.
  • Right turn only out of our lot during arrival and dismissal.

Here are our Safety Patrol leaders with reminders of what their different signals mean:

If you would like to volunteer in our parking lot, please let me know at crystal.sutton@cvesd.org.

YMCA Annual Campaign Is Underway!

Each year, the YMCA holds their Annual Campaign and Tiffany Elementary is proud to support their efforts.  The YMCA does a tremendous amount of work in our community and it is more than child care.  Their Annual Campaign allows the YMCA to provide many opportunities in our community including scholarships for childcare, events for seniors, memberships for unsheltered members of our community and more.

At Tiffany this year, we will support the Annual Campaign by having a coin drive.  Our individual classrooms have containers where students can bring in donations that will be donated to the YMCA.  The drive will go from Monday, February 12th through Friday, March 1st.  The primary and upper grade class with the highest donation total will win a field day hosted by our YMCA team!

If you would like to make a classroom donation, but would rather donate via our YMCA page, CLICK HERE – write your child’s name and room number in the memo line and we will dd it to your classroom total.

The YMCA will also be selling popsicles every Friday through March 8th in front of the school.  All money raised will go toward the Annual Campaign.  Thank you for your support!

Weekly Message for the Week of February 12th

Dear Tiffany Families,

I hope this email finds you well on this brisk February weekend.  This weather has been one for the books over the past few weeks and we had our first ever shelter in place due to the tornado warning in our area.  Our students and staff did a great job with this unexpected situation.  While we have never practiced shelter in place due to a tornado warning, we do practice that drill as part of our safety preparedness – environmental hazards are included in that.  Thank you for trusting us with your children everyday!

This week’s message is quite long – there many activities and important dates coming up.  Here is the information for the week:

Congratulations to Mr. Warren, Tiffany’s Teacher of the Year

Congratulations, Mr. Warren, on being selected as Tiffany’s Teacher of the Year for 2023/24!  Mr. Warren will be honored at an upcoming CVESD Board Meeting and will be in the running for CVESD Teacher of the Year!   Thank you for all you do for our students here at Tiffany, Mr. Warren!

A Message from Mr. Estrada

I want to relay to you my undying gratitude for allowing me to serve as your Associate Principal this year.  I have been able to learn and grow so much this year.  Due to the ever-changing needs of my família, I need to step back from this position.  Thursday was my last day at Tiffany Elementary.

I have been able to secure a position at Castle Park Elementary School as an Impact teacher, I report there on Monday.  This change will allow me to be with my family while providing a new challenge in my career.   Until we meet again, know that I will wear my Tiffany Tigers hoodie with pride.  With such a dedicated and loving staff and parents, I know Tiffany will continue to excel.  Until we meet again…

Respectfully,

Jesús R. Estrada

Reminder of New COVID Guidelines

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and SDCOE have updated the COVID-19 guidance as of this week.  Email covtest4@cvesd.org with questions.

Recommendations for people who test positive: The updated guidance will allow individuals to follow a more symptom-based approach as they usually do for other illnesses. Individuals who develop symptoms and test positive must stay home for 24 hours from the onset of symptoms. A child or staff member with COVID-19 can now return to school or a childcare setting if their symptoms are mild and improving and they have had no fever for 24 hours. They are no longer required to stay home for 5 days. If the student or staff member with COVID-19 never developed symptoms, they may continue to attend school or a childcare setting.

Students and staff must follow the masking guidance below:

Student masking indoors is strongly recommended through day 10 after testing positive.

Staff masking indoors is REQUIRED through day 10 after testing positive per CAL/OSHA.

Symptom onset is day zero. If there are no symptoms, day zero is the test collection date. Individuals who have symptoms and test positive must stay home for at least 24 hours from the onset of symptoms. The potential infectious period is 2 days before the date of symptoms began or the positive test date (if no symptoms) through Day 10. (Day 0 is the symptom onset date or positive test date).

Everyday Counts – Attendance Reminders

Just a reminder that our gates open for breakfast and the track at 8:10am – we encourage our families to take advantage of this opportunity, as you beat the parking lot rush!  School starts promptly at 8:45am and students should be in line by 8:40am.

If a student is sick with a fever, bowel issues, vomiting, COVID, flu, etc., they should not attend school.  Also keep in mind that students who have a 100+ degree temperature may not come to school and can return after they have been fever free for 24 hours without medication.

Again, here are tips for attendance to know what is excused and what is not:

  • Please call the office to report any absences and the reason for the absence.
    • Excused Absences: illness, doctor appointments for the student, military engagements (ex. ceremony, return from deployment), death of an immediate family member, etc.
    • Unexcused Absences:  appointments for other family members, out of town, vacations, etc.
    • Independent Study:  If you know ahead that your child might need to miss school (ex. family reunion), please contact your child’s teacher and our office to set up an independent study contract.  Independent Study contracts are available for 3 or more days, but not more than 14 cumulative days in a school year.  Independent Study Contracts should be requested at least one week in advance.
    • Tardy:  Students are considered tardy if they are not in class by 8:45am.
    • COVID absences are cleared with a POSITIVE test result.

Here’s to a great week!

Take Care,

Dr. Sutton
