Welcome to the 2023/24 School Year

Dear Tiffany Elementary School Families,

As we approach the opening of the 2023-2024 school year, I hope this message finds you and your family well.  My name is Crystal Sutton and I am excited to serve this community for a third year as your principal!  If you would like to know a little more about me, please click HERE, which will take you to my page on our school blog.  I look forward to reconnecting with our current families and welcoming our new families.

I would also like to introduce our new associate principal, Jesús Estrada.  Please welcome him to our Tiffany Community!  To learn a little more about him, please click HERE.

I know our entire team is ready to welcome our students on July 19th. Below you will find information about the start of school.

Office is Now Open

Our school main office is now open from 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM, daily.  Our office team is processing continuing enrollment forms, enrolling new families and getting ready to open the school year.  We are available to support our families with questions you may have.  Please also be sure to subscribe to our Tiffany Elementary School Blog by visiting https://tiffanyelementary.edublogs.org/.

Continuing Student Registration for Returning Students

All returning families should have received an email notification from PowerSchool to complete the “CONTINUING STUDENT REGISTRATION” process back in late May and reminders if we have not received your information back yet.  If you already completed this process, no need to do anything more.  If you have not completed this yet, please search your inbox by searching “PowerSchool” to locate the student specific link and complete the process.  Completion of the Continuing Student Registration process is required for 2023-24 school year enrollment.

If your plans have changed and your student(s) are not returning to Tiffany Elementary for the upcoming school year, please call the office as soon as possible to let us know.

As a reminder, this process is only for returning students – not new students.

2023-2024 School Year Calendar

Absence Guidelines

Here are some of the absence requirements for this school year.  Please keep these items in mind:

  • Please call the office to report any absences and the reason for the absence.
    • Excused Absences: illness, doctor appointments for the student, military engagements (ex. ceremony, return from deployment), death of an immediate family member, etc.
    • Unexcused Absences:  appointments for other family members, out of town, vacations, etc.
    • Independent Study:  If you know ahead that your child might need to miss school (ex. family reunion), please contact your child’s teacher and our office to set up an independent study contract.  Independent Study contracts are available for 3 or more days, but not more than 14 cumulative days in a school year.  Independent Study Contracts should be requested at least one week in advance.
    • Tardy:  Students are considered tardy if they are not in class by 8:45am.
    • COVID absences are cleared with a POSITIVE test result.  Current guidelines require positive individuals to stay home for 5 days.

General Information

  • Mask wearing continues to be optional for adults and students
  • Students are encouraged to come with their own water bottle to school to stay hydrated
  • Volunteers will be welcomed on campus again this year.  Stay tuned for more information.
  • We will continue to have parents/families outside at arrival each morning.
  • At dismissal, Preschool, TK, K and 1st will all dismiss from the Kindergarten area to an adult.  Bus riders will be escorted to the bus.
  • Second through Sixth Grade students will walk through gates on the West side of campus at dismissal.

Supplies

There is nothing that a student is required to have to start school next week.  Items that are helpful are a backpack, lunch box (if bringing food) and a water bottle.  Basic school supplies will be provided here at Tiffany.  Stay tuned for more information from your child’s teacher next week.

Transportation

Some of the students in our school zoned-area are eligible for transportation.  If you want to see if your student(s) are eligible, please visit the link below for more information and to register if eligible:

Transportation Information – Chula Vista Elementary School District (cvesd.org)

*Please note that TK students are not eligible to ride the neighborhood bus.  TK students in SDC follow a different requirement and guidelines for bus transportation are part of the student’s IEP.

Traffic and Safety

For your review, here are the traffic and parking lot expectations:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”
  • Yellow curbs are for loading and unloading only – cars should not be parked and left unattended.  If you are on a yellow curb, you should be in your vehicle to move as the traffic is moving.
  • The left lane in the parking lot is for traffic to move through.  Parking/stopping in the left lane blocks cars from being able to exit.  Students should not exit or enter vehicles that are in the left lane.
  • Use crosswalks for crossing the street and parking lot.  When dropping students off, please be sure that they exit the vehicle on the right so that they get out directly onto the sidewalk closest to the school building.
  • Follow traffic patterns and do not double park along parking spaces.

Thank you, in advance, for following these expectations and for keeping our students safe.

Meals for Breakfast and Lunch this Year

Breakfast (before school) and Lunch will be provided for students free of charge again this year for those who would like it.  Students can also bring their own lunch and/snacks.  For menu information, please visit: School Menus – Chula Vista Elementary School District (cvesd.org)

Breakfast service is from 8:10-8:40 every school day to all students.  If your child would like breakfast, please enter the gates at the West end of campus and eat at the lunch tables outside on the main playground.

Save the Date

We will be having a Back to School Picnic/Meet and Greet from 2-4pm on Friday, July 21st at Tiffany Park next door to our school.  More information to come, but I wanted to make sure that you have the date.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact our main office at (619) 421-6300, via phone or email me at crystal.sutton@cvesd.org.  Our school team is excited to see our students and families soon!

Sincerely,

Dr. Sutton
