Weekly Message for the Week of September 19th

Dear Tiffany Families,

I hope this email finds you well this weekend – what wild day we had on Friday!  That was the second time in my whole career that school was impacted by an SDG&E outage.  The first was when the power was knocked off the grid for all of Southern California in September of 2011.  Friday was the first time I have ever experienced an SDG&E outage impacting one school!  Thank you all for your flexibility and quick change of plans with your children on Friday.  We are looking forward to a smooth week ahead as we end the first quarter of this school year together.  Here is the information for the week:

Minimum Days this Week and Final Day of Quarter 1 on Friday

We will continue to stay on minimum days for the remainder of this week for our TK-6th grade students.  Preschool will follow their regular schedule.  Conferences are still underway for our families.  Our Fall Break for all students will be September 26th – October 10th.

Students will return Tuesday, October 11th.  October 11th will be a minimum day for TK-6th grade students.

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Every minute counts when students are at school. This year we are working on improving attendance for all our students. Let’s help all our Tigers build a habit of good attendance early to set them up for success. Review our Attendance Pro Tips provided:

  • Make sure students come to school well rested with a good night’s sleep.
  • Allow plenty of time to get ready, get out the door, and transition to school.
  • Have clothes and shoes ready and homework in the backpack the night before.
  • Call the school for each day of illness or injury.
  • Bring doctor notes to the school office the day after an appointment.
  • Respond to school messages about your student’s attendance.
  • Talk with the teacher and principal if your student has concerns about attending school.

Learn more about chronic absenteeism and truancy here

We receive frequent requests for early release of students.  Remember that if your child is being pulled out of school early, their absence is unexcused unless accompanied by a doctor’s note.

Independent Study Contracts are available for planned absences.  Please contact our office and your classroom teacher if your child will be absent for an extended time.

Traffic and Safety

At arrival and dismissal each day we have volunteers, comprised of both staff and parents, that can be identified with the bright neon yellow vests.  Our collective goal is to help keep our parking lot safe.  Friendly paper reminders are also being placed on windshields of cars left unattended on red and yellow curbs.  Thank you for following the expectations below:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”
  • Yellow curbs are for loading and unloading only – cars should not be parked and left unattended.  If you are on a yellow curb, you should be in your vehicle to move as the traffic is moving.
  • The left lane in the parking lot is for traffic to move through.  Parking/stopping in the left lane blocks cars from being able to exit.  Students should not exit or enter vehicles that are in the left lane.
  • Use crosswalks for crossing the street and parking lot.  When dropping students off, please be sure that they exit the vehicle on the right so that they get out directly onto the sidewalk closest to the school building.
  • Follow traffic patterns and do not double park along parking spaces.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at crystal.sutton@cvesd.org.

Campus Clinic

Campus Clinic, operated by COVID Clinic, is the organization that will be providing testing for students and staff here on campus each Wednesday at Tiffany Elementary.  If you want to participate in this optional testing, a new consent form must be filled out for the 2022-2023 school year.  Students and staff who were previously registered will not automatically rollover.  The consent forms were sent via email and are personalized for each student and staff member.
Optional testing takes place every Wednesday.  Campus Clinic staff will be on campus and will test only students and staff who have consent to be tested.  PCR tests will be used and results are shared with parent(s) via email within 24-48 hours.  If your child has tested positive within the last 90 days, PCR tests are not recommended because they can pick up small fragments of the virus.  Antigen testing is not available through Campus Clinic yet.  If that changes, we will let our community know.
If you did not receive an email from Campus Clinic and want to have your child participate, please email support@campusclinic.orgThey will be able to assist you with registration.  Our front office does not handle registration for testing.
Here’s to a great week!
Take Care,
Dr. Sutton
